SPECIAL DIET INFO
(Gluten-Free, Low-Carb, Low Sodium, Low Salt, Dairy-Free, Casein-Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, Nut-Free)

We at The Dippy Chick™ Company are very aware of allergens and special diets and do the best to inform you of what may or may not be safe for you to eat. For detailed information on the ingredients of our dips, you may contact us.

GLUTEN FREE - All of our dip mixes are considered gluten free, meaning there is no known gluten in the ingredients. I have checked with soy bacon bits and dairy powder suppliers and they have told me there is no gluten in those ingredients -HOWEVER- the possibility of cross contamination does exist with those items - just like anywhere. The dips with just herbs and spices, however, are totally gluten free and are not processed or packaged in an area with gluten.

A couple of our flavors do contain annatto (a natural plant-derived colorant) because they are made with cheddar cheese. I do not know the specifics of the annatto used. If you are not comfortable consuming annatto, you should avoid the mixes with cheddar cheese in them.

I am gluten intolerant (celiac disease) and I personally eat all of our dip flavors without a problem. Use your own discretion however as ingredients can change without warning, especially if you are particularly sensitive to gluten. I check the ingredients of products coming in to make sure nothing has changed, but I cannot completely guarantee against cross-contamination where the bacon bits and dairy powders are made and packed outside of my kitchen. We all have our own comfort level, so for those who are extra cautious and sensitive, I'd recommend the following dip mixes that only contain herbs and spices:

In The Dill of the Night Dip Mix
Ya Gotta Jump, Chive and Wail Dip Mix
Atomic Wedgie Veggie Dip Mix
Down-N-Dirty Chipotle Pepper Dip Mix
Crabby ol' Beach Seafood Dip Mix
Kamikaze Wasabi Dip Mix

Howzabout a Hoagie
May The Horse Be With You
Pepper Pajama Party

LOW CARB - Our dip mixes are all low carb when blended with low carb ingredients. Be sure to check the ingredients of the sour cream you use. Some may contain "modified food starch" derived from grains that can add carbohydrates.

LOW SODIUM / SALT - We do not add any salt to our dip mixes. The only ones that contain salt are those made with bacon bits and cheese because the salt is added to those ingredients prior to us receiving it for making our blends. We never add any additional salt.

DAIRY FREE / CASEIN FREE - Our dip mixes can be blended with a soy based sour cream substitute such as Tofutti Brand "Better Than Sour Cream". You can also use silken tofu, if you don't mind tofu. Just make sure you order a dip that is dairy-free.

Another great alternative (if you're not allergic to cashews) is this recipe for Cashew Sour Cream. I am on a Gluten Free and Dairy Free (Casein Free) Diet and this is what I use. This is also healthier and less fattening than dairy sour cream, if you are watching your weight or nutrition.

CASHEW SOUR CREAM - Dairy Free
1-2 cups of cashews (no need to soak)
Juice of 1/2 small lemon
salt to taste
water (to help blend if needed)

Put the cashews, lemon juice and salt in a blender (I use Magic Bullet blender). Add water to the top of the cashews and blend until very smooth. The extra water will absorb as it sits. You can keep this "sour cream" in a tight container in the fridge for up to a week. It is great as a dip or a substitute for ricotta. I use it on gluten free pizza as my "cheese".

Approximate nutritional info for Cashew Sour Cream recipe above. (About 1 1/8 cup)

NUT ALLERGIES - We do sometimes use nut products because our dips are made in a (state licensed) residential kitchen. We have made every effort to clean our work surfaces to remove any nuts oils or fragments, but if you are extrememly allergic please be aware of this.

CORN ALLERGIES - We currently don't use cornstarch or corn ingredients in our dips.

OTHER ALLERGENS - Please contact us if you have any concerns at all.

MSG - There is NO MSG in our products! Enjoy!

TRANS FATS - None!

Again, contact us if you have any questions regarding our ingredients. I, the owner, have food allergies so I understand your concerns.

INGREDIENT DETAILS - On our main shopping page we list a brief description of our ingredients with an * next to those that require extra explanation, such as the cheeses and bacon bits that we use. We researched several cheese powders, and these were the best gluten-free choice with the least amount of additives - all of which are naturally occurring.

Cheddar Cheese - Contains pasteurized cultured milk, enzymes, calcium chloride, annatto, disodium phosphate, sodium citrate.

Soy Bacon Bits - Contains textured organic low-fat soy flour, salt, natural flavor, caramel color.

Silicon Dioxide is added to some dips as an anti-caking agent. My research showed that silicon dioxide was a safe additive that occurs naturally.

CELIAC DISEASE & GLUTEN INTOLERANCE INFO

Family Photo

Hello! This is Chris - the owner & founder of Dippy Chick®. My husband, two sons and I have multiple food intolerances. We thought perhaps at least some of us had celiac disease, but it turns out that we don't. (We have IgG allergies - sometimes called delayed food allergies.) We did, however, spend 4 years of our lives gluten-free because we felt so much better, and we still avoid gluten in our foods, as well as other foods. I alone am sensitive to over a dozen foods including such biggies as sugar cane, yeast, garlic, eggs, beans and dairy. YES - DAIRY! I can't even eat my own dips nowadays - and I haven't quite developed a taste for soy "cream cheese" yet. Luckily, I can ocassionally eat my problem foods with the help of digestive enzymes. You can read about that here: www.enzymestuff.com

Now about Celiac Disease...
About 1 in 133 people in the United States have Celiac Disease. The amazing thing is, it is a very common disorder, but about 80-90% of people have no idea that they have it! It is widely misdiagnosed - often as IBS or other digestive disorders. Celiac Disease is not contagious. It is something that people are born with or develop over time. A person with Celiac Disease cannot eat a certain protein - called "gluten" - which is found in wheat, barley, rye and oats. (Actually, oats are gluten free but are usually grown with wheat and therefore contaminated.)

I could go on and on about Celiac Disease in my own words, but it is probably best to give information "straight from the horse's mouth" via professional resources. Below are some other web sites on Celiac Disease. I encourage you to read them if you suspect that you or a loved one may have it.
